Caltrans Worker Troy Lohuis, 47, Killed in Sacramento Hit-and-Run on Highway 99
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 27, 2021) – Caltrans worker Troy Lohuis was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 99 in South Sacramento.
The Caltrans identified the 47-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Monday night.
The incident began when the Caltrans worker, Troy Jacob Lohuis, was putting up construction detour signs on northbound Highway 99 in Sacramento.
A vehicle approached and then drifted onto the shoulder for an unknown reason. The California Highway Patrol said the driver struck him and knocked him into a big rig nearby.
Subcontractor Hit by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and found the victim left lying beneath a trailer. Troy Lohuis died at the scene of the Sacramento crash.
The Sacramento Bee and KCRA News wrote that the accident occurred on July 26 at about 8:51 p.m. It happened near the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the subcontractor and fled the area. They described the car involved as a 2015-2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The truck obtained damage on its right-hand side and a missing side-view mirror following the collision. The Sacramento hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
Records showed that the Caltrans worker, Troy Jacob Lohuis, was an employee with Highway Specialty Company in North Highlands. Anyone with information can call the CHP at 916-897-5600.
