2 Injured in Redding Crash on I-5 Freeway
REDDING, Calif. (March 2, 2022) — Two Caltrans workers were critically injured in a Redding crash Tuesday when a driver in a box truck struck their vehicle on the shoulder of the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The CHP reported the crash at 1 p.m. on March 1st on the northbound Interstate 5, just north of Hilltop Drive.
The men parked a Caltrans vehicle on the right shoulder while they conducted a cleanup operation. Meanwhile, a driver in a box truck went onto the right shoulder and crashed into the back of the Caltrans truck.
A box truck reportedly hit the Caltrans vehicle and pushed it forward. The Caltrans vehicle struck one of the workers on the side of the road. The 25-year-old Anderson man suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported him to Mercy Medical Center. Additionally, a 66-year-old Bella Vista man in the driver’s seat of the Caltrans truck also suffered major injuries and got taken to the hospital.
Finally, the 40-year-old Sacramento man driving the box truck declined an ambulance even though he was also injured.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine what charges if any should be filed.
