Palm Desert High School Teacher Charged with Murder
PALM DESERT, Calif. (March 9, 2023) – Cameron Francis Curtis, 31, of Palm Desert, plead not guilty to murder charges for a fatal Palm Desert pedestrian accident on Calliandra Street.
The deadly crash occurred around 6:09 p.m. on Saturday, March 4th at the Palm Desert intersection, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
UPDATED: Woman killed in Calliandra Street crash is identified
The Palm Desert High School teacher and football coach was allegedly driving under the influence when his eastbound gray Nissan Frontier struck a woman walking along Calliandra Street near Alamo Drive, KESQ reports.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and firefighters responded, but sadly the unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, police investigating the crash believe that intoxication was a factor and they arrested Cameron Curtis then booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. He remains in jail on $1 million bail.
On Wednesday, the motorist plead not guilty to murder charges brought against him and he also denied a sentence enhancement of causing great bodily injury at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
