Infant Camilla Garza ID’d in Fatal Car Accident on South Broadway Extension

November 8, 2018 – The 8-month-old infant who died of injuries sustained in a traffic collision last month has been identified as Camilla Garza.
On October 25, Thursday, baby Camilla was traveling in a vehicle driven by her father, 45-year-old Hector Garza. Their car was reportedly struck by a jeep type of vehicle driven by 35-year-old Jessica Martin. Officials added at least two other vehicles were involved in the wreck.
According to East Bay Times, baby Camilla was rushed following the incident to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland with major injuries. Five days after, paramedics sadly pronounced the infant dead.
The accident also resulted in fatal trauma to Hector, who was pronounced deceased at the location . Furthermore, two other unidentified occupants in the other vehicles involved suffered injuries as a result of the mishap.
Primary reports indicated Martin was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. She was ultimately arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Recent news stated Martin’s arraignment was put over to November 15. She is expected to plead not guilty to murdering Hector and Camilla Garza, as well as two DUI-related charges, one accusing her of being drunk at the time of the collision.
At this time, Martin remains in custody in the West Contra Costa Detention Facility in lieu of $2.1 million bail.
