At Least 2 Injured After Chase Ends in Car Crash on Highway 101
LOCATION: Santa Barbara County
DATE OF COLLISION: Monday, October 1st
October 1, 2018 – Two people were injured after a high-speed chase ended in a car crash on Highway 101 Monday afternoon, according to Noozhawk.
Primary reports indicated the incident began in the city of Lompoc, where police attempted to contact a woman driving a white Toyota RAV4. For unknown reasons, the woman fled south on Highway 1, and was then pursued by Lompoc officers and Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies.
Shortly after 5 p.m. when the woman reportedly reached Highway 101, the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.
Officials said the woman was driving recklessly on the right-hand shoulder of the highway and ended up colliding into a black pickup truck, just north of Refugio State Beach.
Major Car Accident Monday in Santa Barbara County
Two occupants of the pickup sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment. The names of the patients, and their conditions at this time remained unknown.
Meanwhile, authorities determined the RAV4 driver was unharmed in the wreck.
At this time, it is still unclear if there were arrests made following the accident. Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
