Chevy Pickup, Buick Encore Crash on I-5 Freeway
San Juan Capistrano, CA (December 5, 2024) — A car accident involving a red Chevrolet pickup truck and a red Buick Encore happened Thursday on the Interstate 5 Freeway in San Juan Capistrano.
The crash caused significant traffic delays near the Junipero Serra Road off-ramp at approximately 12:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The two vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of the freeway. The vehicles were blocking the middle lanes of the freeway at the off-ramp. Emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes, and traffic was temporarily diverted to other lanes as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
It’s unknown what led up to the Chevrolet pickup truck and the Buick Encore colliding.
At least one person had minor injuries, but it’s unknown if anyone was taken to a hospital.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and by 1:35 p.m., lanes had been reopened, though residual traffic congestion lingered for some time.
The CHP has urged drivers to exercise caution in the area, as there may still be lingering traffic disruptions while cleanup continues. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the San Juan Capistrano CHP office to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
