3 Injured After Car Crashed Into La Jolla Coffee Shop on Girard Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 12, 2021) – Three were injured after a car crashed into a coffee shop in the La Jolla neighborhood.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident occurred on Wednesday morning. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 9:50 a.m.
The incident happened when the driver of a Lexus SUV mistook the gas pedal for the brake and stepped on the gas pedal. The car plowed into the back of the Harry’s Coffee Shop.
Elderly Driver Plows Into Harry’s Coffee Shop
The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said the SUV ended up inside the restaurant near a backdoor entrance from a parking lot. The coffee shop is located at 7545 Girard Avenue in La Jolla.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon responded to the scene near Pearl Street. They found three people who ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel treated an employee at the shop for minor wounds they sustained in the wreck. Officials took the elderly couple riding the Lexus to the Scripps in La Jolla with unspecified injuries.
Officials did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time. The crash, which caused a gas leak on the property, is still under investigation.
