Car Crashes Into La Mesa Building on University Avenue, Kills Man

LA MESA, CA (July 28, 2021) – A man was killed after a car crashed into a building in La Mesa on University Avenue

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident occurred on Wednesday. Officers reported the wreck at about 5:30 p.m.

La Mesa police said the incident began when an SUV going east on University Avenue veered off the road for an unknown reason.

The car then plowed into the mostly glass commercial office building at 7373 University Avenue. The business is located in front of the Helix High School.

Fatal Crash Near High School

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They confirmed that 40-year-old man inside the building died as a result of the collision.

His name remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the 61-year-old man driving the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Medical personnel took him to a hospital for treatment. Police forced the eastbound lanes of University Avenue at Yale Street to shut down for hours following the wreck.

The cause of the fatal La Mesa car crash is still under investigation.
