Man Standing on Sidewalk Hit During Crash on PCH
LONG BEACH, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2023) — Carlos Ceron, 50, of Long Beach, died after a car involved in a collision struck him while standing on the sidewalk at Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Long Beach.
The deadly crash between a 2010 Nissan 350Z and a 2017 Jeep Cherokee occurred just before 6 p.m. near a 7-Eleven store, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the scene near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, according to KABC 7 News Los Angeles.
2-Vehicle Crash at Long Beach intersection
Investigators reported a 20-year-old Long Beach man driving the Nissan was heading eastbound on PCH at a high rate of speed when the car collided with the westbound Jeep as its driver turned left towards MLK Jr. Avenue into the path of the Nissan.
The two vehicles collided and the Nissan also crashed into a traffic signal pole and split in half. The car also struck and killed the pedestrian on the sidewalk and mowed down a bus bench. The pedestrian was later identified as Carlos Ceron.
Meanwhile, the young man driving the Nissan was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and the 50-year-old Long Beach woman from the Jeep was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Police believe that speed was a factor in the fatal Long Beach crash, but the cause remains under investigation.
Finally, it’s unknown if any criminal charges will be filed in this case. Drugs and or alcohol, however, were not a factor in the collision.
