Carlos Garcia ID’d as Boy Killed on I-580 Freeway in Livermore
Boy, 8, Hospitalized with Major Injuries
LIVERMORE, Calif. (September 28, 2020) – Carlos Garcia, 12, of Manteca, died last Monday afternoon in a collision between an SUV and a truck on the Interstate 580 in Livermore.
At approximately 1:20 p.m. on Sept. 21st, two vehicles collided in the westbound side of I-580 near the Airway Boulevard off ramp in Livermore.
Carlos Garcia was riding as a passenger in a Chevrolet Tahoe with four other people when the vehicle collided with a truck and tractor. Upon impact, the Tahoe’s driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. Both Carlos and an 8-year-old boy were ejected from the SUV.
The 12-year-old boy suffered major injuries and died at the scene. The younger child suffered major injuries and was transported to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland.
One adult and two other juveniles who were in the Tahoe survived with only minor injuries.
The truck driver did not report any injuries after the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation to determine the cause of the car accident. Witnesses may contact investigators at 925-828-0466.
