Carlos Hernandez, 28, Suspect in Pico Rivera Fatal DUI Crash on Whittier Boulevard
PICO RIVERA, CA (May 18, 2022) – Authorities detained Carlos Hernandez after a fatal DUI crash on Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera.
The sheriff’s department determined that the 28-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Saturday.
The incident began when Carlos Hernandez was driving a black Mercedes sedan east on Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera. At the same time, a Honda sedan was going west.
Deputies said he then slammed into the Honda east of Gregg Road. The Whittier Daily News wrote that the accident took place on May 14 at around 1:50 a.m.
Angelica Lopez, 62, Killed in Wreck
The driver of the Honda, 62-year-old Whittier resident Angelica Lopez, and a 14-year-old boy riding as a passenger in the Mercedes died.
The other occupant of the Honda, a woman in her 60s, sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, officers soon arrested Carlos Hernandez on suspicion of murder, DUI and DUI causing injury after the crash. He survived the wreck with unknown injuries.
They booked the suspect at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles with a bail set at $2 million. The Pico Rivera DUI crash is still under investigation.
