Coroner ID Pedestrian Killed on Hollywood (101) Freeway
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2019) – Carlos Mejia, 84, of Los Angeles, was struck and killed last Friday morning while walking on the Hollywood (101) Freeway.
Carlos Mejia was struck as he reportedly walked in the northbound No. 5 lane of the freeway, just south of Gower Street.
The crash took place 1 a.m. on Nov. 1st. Paramedics responded and rushed Mejia to a hospital, but he died a short time later.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation into the crash.
So far, police have reported that Mejia was hit by a 2007 Nissan driven by a 34- year-old Sanger man. The driver and his passenger exited the freeway and called 911. They then got back on the freeway and waited near the crash scene for police to show up.
Police are trying to piece together why Carlos Mejia was walking on the freeway.
The CHP asked witnesses to call investigators at 323-259-3200.
