Man Struck, Killed in Santa Ana Crash
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2023) – Carlos Alberto Lopez Nunez, 26, of Santa Ana, was arrested this week after a fatal hit-and-run Santa Ana pedestrian accident on Monday at First Street and Figueroa Street.
The Santa Ana man is believed to be the driver who allegedly struck and killed a man about 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 20th. He then is accused of leaving the scene without stopping to help the victim, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. Police later arrested the man and noted that alcohol is likely a factor in the collision, CBS News reports.
Apparently, the victim was struck in the eastbound lanes of First Street.
Meanwhile, paramedics with the Orange County Fire Authority responded and confirmed the victim’s death at the scene. His name will be released after relatives are notified.
Investigators managed to locate the suspect’s vehicle parked at a home in the area. They subsequently arrested the suspect and believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash.
Carlos Nunez is being charged with felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence, the Orange County Register reports.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the Santa Ana pedestrian accident may call investigator K. Briley at 714-245-8215, or the police department’s Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.
