3 Injured, Suspect Arrested on DUI Charges
CARLSBAD, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2023) — Three people were injured in a wrong-way crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway in Carlsbad early Friday, Dec. 1st near Cannon Road.
The traffic accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. between two motorists, according to San Diego 7 News.
An alleged wrong-way driver was traveling in a pickup truck northbound in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 just south of Agua Hedionda Lagoon, the report said.
The Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck reportedly crashed into an oncoming Audi sedan occupied by a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, police said.
The suspect, an unidentified 35-year-old man, survived with minor injuries. However, the young man driving the Audi and his female passenger, both suffered severe, non-life threatening injuries. They were taken by ambulances to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Meanwhile, the suspect from the pickup truck was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being treated at the hospital.
The Carlsbad wrong-way crash remains under investigation.
