Carmageddon: Potential Traffic Nightmare Expected in Los Angeles

Sports and Entertainment Events Expected to Snarl Traffic

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2024) — Anyone driving into downtown Los Angeles Friday or Saturday should brace themselves for a potential traffic nightmare dubbed by some as “carmageddon.”

The confluence of several huge sporting events held today and tomorrow are expected to jam freeways and streets in the area as fans head to these venues.

The sporting events impacting traffic begin Friday with Game 1 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium, USC Trojans versus Rutgers at the LA Coliseum, the Lakers versus Phoenix Suns at Crypto.com arena, and the East L.A. Classic football game between Theodore Roosevelt and James A. Garfield high schools at SoFi Stadium in nearby Inglewood. Furthermore, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd is playing a concert Friday night at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood and Jeff Lynne’s Elo at the Kia Forum both nights.

On Saturday, Game 2 of the Dodgers vs. Yankees at Dodger Stadium, the L.A. Kings vs. Utah Hockey Club at Crypto.com Arena, and L.A. Galaxy vs. Colorado Rapids at Dignity Health Sports Park. Imagine Dragons at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday and Sunday.

Mayor Karen Bass reports the city has coordinated several agencies to reduce traffic and ensure public safety.

The Los Angeles Police Department will be increasing its visibility at these venues, the Los Angeles Fire Department will be ready with nearby paramedics and police will assist the Department of Transportation with white-glove traffic officers at busy intersections and venues.

The LA Metro is offering extra services for those who want to avoid carmageddon on the A, B/D, and E Lines on Friday, as well as Saturday, when there are four other sporting events scheduled.

More information you can view LA Metro schedules on Metro maps. Transit agencies will also add buses and expand its shuttle services to Dodger Stadium.

There is a Dodger Shuttle Express fans can take from Union Station, but if you do drive to the stadium there is the Dodger Stadium Express Lane or Line 34 for faster entry and exits.
