Carmel Valley: Deadly DUI Crash on State Route 56 Near Carmel Country Road1 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-On Collision on State Route 56 Saturday

Carmel Valley, CA (July 10, 2021) – At least one person died following a suspected DUI car crash on State Route 56 early Saturday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported a silver Honda Civic was spotted driving in the wrong direction on the highway at about 1:45 a.m. In the area near Carmel Country Road, the Honda collided head-on into a blue Mazda CX-5.

When emergency crews arrived at the site, they found a passenger in the Honda with serious injuries. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the victim, but they sadly succumbed to their injuries and died.

Authorities added the driver of the Mazda sustained minor injuries as a result of a wreck. An ambulance transported the patient to a hospital for treatment and further evaluation.

Meanwhile, officials said the 22-year-old San Marcos man driving the Honda showed signs of intoxication. The test results confirmed the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the unfortunate event. For this reason, police arrested the suspect on suspicion of DUI.

Further investigation on the deadly DUI car crash in Carmel Valley is underway.
