Motorist Killed in Crash Near Huron is Identified
COALINGA, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2024) – Carmen Avila, 45, of Coalinga, died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 269 (Lassen Avenue) and Jayne Avenue near Huron in the Fresno County area.
The traffic accident occurred at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 28th, roughly 14 miles east of Coalinga, according to Your Central Valley News and the California Highway Patrol.
The Coalinga man was driving a Hyundai Accent southbound on Highway 269 and stopped briefly at a stop sign posted on Jayne Avenue.
Meanwhile, another driver in a Toyota Corolla was heading north on Highway 269 and approaching Jayne Avenue. The Toyota allegedly failed to stop and drove into the intersection.
The vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and into the path of the Hyundai where it struck the front of the left side of the victim’s car.
Carmen Avila suffered major injuries and died following the crash on Highway 269, the Fresno County Sheriff Coroner reported. The Toyota driver was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Finally, investigators are working on the case and suspect that alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
