Child, 3, Injured in Atwater Village Pedestrian Accident
ATWATER VILLAGE, Los Angeles (October 12, 2017) – On March 28, Tuesday, Caroline Maurer was struck by a vehicle at an unnamed intersection in Atwater Village, according to KTLA 5.
Primary reports mentioned Maurer was pushing a 2-year-old boy in a stroller when the accident occurred.
Maurer, the involved young boy’s nanny, narrated that were no cars at the intersection when they started crossing. Then, one car approached and made a left-hand turn toward her and the boy. As per the article, Maurer pushed the stroller to save the boy and ended up being the one struck by the car.

Investigators believe the involved motorist did not stop or slow down at a 4-way stop sign, leading to the collision. The impact resulted in the nanny suffering in serious injuries to her hands, wrists, and arms. Maurer was hospitalized for more than two weeks before spending another two months in rehabilitation.
Officials said the victim has undergone three surgeries since late March, and was only allowed to start physical therapy three months after because of weakness in her hands, wrists and arms. Furthermore, she has also been suffering from dizziness that may also be related to the crash.
Meanwhile, the child was reportedly not directly hit by the car and only suffered minor scrapes in the crash.
No immediate information was disclosed on the involved motorist. It was not clear if the driver was identified, or if charges were made.
The young boy’s parents, Courtney Davis and Bill Wolkoff, started a fundraising page to help Ms. Caroline Maurer.
Based on this news report, it remained unclear if the involved driver will be held liable for causing the accident that led to Ms. Caroline Maurer and an innocent child injured. These laws include the obligation of the drivers to yield the right of way to pedestrians crossing in a marked crosswalk, or unmarked crosswalks at intersections, to not overtake and pass a stopped vehicle that let pedestrians cross at a marked or unmarked crosswalk, and to exercise due care and lessen the speed of their cars while approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk.
