Highway 32 Fatal Bicycle Accident Victim ID’d as Casey Marie
CHICO, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2018) – A bicyclist who was struck by a minivan and killed Wednesday morning has been identified as Casey Marie, 39.
The woman was reportedly struck by the motorist about 9:20 a.m.
Tara Daugelli, 32, of Chico, was traveling eastbound on SR-32 towards W. East Ave. in a Dodge Mini Cam when the rider allegedly made a left turn in the path of the motorist, police said.
Paramedics rushed the injured bicyclist to Enloe Medical Center where she later died.
Police are investigating liability for the crash as well as whether any criminal actions such as distracted driving or driving under the influence were factors in the collision. Typically, all pedestrians including bicyclists, have the right of way in the roadway and motorists are required to yield the right-of-way to them under California law. Hopefully there were witnesses or surveillance video to confirm what happened and help police determine fault.
Those of us at Johnson Attorneys Group offer our condolences to the family of Casey Marie as they cope with her tragic loss.
