Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez Killed in Kings County Crash
KINGS COUNTY, CA (June 1, 2023) – Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez were killed after a crash at Laurel Avenue and Avenal Cutoff Road in Kings County.
The coroner’s office identified the couple, both 66 years old, as victims in the fatal wreck which took place on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez were riding as passengers in a 2014 Honda traveling in Kings County. Their car was traveling in the area of Laurel Avenue and Avenal Cutoff Road.
At the same time, a 2019 Dodge Ram was going east on Laurel. Its driver, 50-year-old Huron resident Pedro Rosas, came to a stop at the Avenal Cutoff Road.
3 Injured in Wreck
He then tried to turn southbound onto Avenal Cutoff and went into the path of the Honda. The operator of the Honda, 28-year-old Avenal resident Jesus Arrellano, attempted to veer left to avoid the Dodge.
The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the two cars collided. The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News wrote that the collision occurred on May 30 at around 12 p.m.
Catalina De Torres and Arturo Gomez died at the scene of the crash. Two other occupants of the Honda, a 77-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, ended up hurt as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed them to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. Medical personnel transported Pedro Rosas for treatment.
Officers forced Highway 119 to shut down for more than three hours following the wreck. The cause of the Kings County crash is still under investigation.
