LONG BEACH, California (March 6, 2017) — An elderly man was struck and killed by a driver Saturday evening as he stepped off the curb at 7th Street and Olive Avenue, according to the Long Beach Press Telegram.
The fatal crash took place about 5:50 p.m. Police say the man was on the southwest coroner of 7th Street just prior to stepping into the roadway. He was struck by a driver in a 2011 Nissan who was traveling eastbound on 7th Street.
The Long Beach Police Department responded to the scene as well as paramedics who transported the injured man to Long Beach Hospital where he later died.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability, but initial findings are the vehicle had the right-of-way and no charges have been filed. The driver, who remained at the scene and was cooperative with police, told authorities he was unable to stop or avoid the collision.
Witnesses are asked to contact Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.
