Man Struck by Unlicensed, Uninsured Driver on Cherry Ave

LONG BEACH, California (August 15, 2017) — A man in his 40s was hit by a motorist and killed early Tuesday morning on Cherry Avenue, just north of 65th Street, according to a report by the Long Beach Police Department.

The fatal pedestrian accident was reported about 12:10 p.m. this morning. The man was attempting to cross the street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier.

The victim, who was not carrying any identification, was transported by ambulance to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver in the Chevrolet was a 39-year-old Lakewood man. The motorist stopped and was cooperative with authorities who are investigating the crash.

The preliminary investigation has determined that alcohol was not involved, but the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and was not insured. There may be charges filed against the motorist, but they have not been filed yet. Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision may contact Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-7355.

The first thing you should do is contact an attorney. Without the representation of a lawyer, insurance companies might make contact with you directly, and since they are trained to protect their best interests, this could mean a loss of rights on your behalf, especially if you unknowingly sign something that they didn't completely explain to you. Handling a personal injury claim by yourself is very difficult. You will deal directly with the insurance adjuster who is often trained to obtain the information they are not entitled to use. This information can negatively impact and de-value your case. Once your case is damaged, it is very difficult to repair it and usually costs you thousands of dollars less in a settlement.
