MERCED, California (March 17, 2017) — A semi-tractor trailer truck crossed from the southbound to northbound 99 Freeway and collided with a vehicle near the East Mission Avenue off ramp, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 10:09 a.m. this morning. A vehicle crashed into the truck and was stuck underneath the semi’s trailer. Police arriving at the scene stated the driver was conscious, but appeared to be trapped and people were trying to get them out of the vehicle.
Paramedics responded to the scene to help the injured, but there were no further details.
Police will investigate the cause of the crash and liability. It’s unclear why the truck traveled across the center divider of the freeway, but there could be many reasons such as driver fatigue, distractions or mechanical problems.
