Chan Kee Chung Killed in Car Crash at Highway 49 and Davidson Road

SHANDON (July 27, 2018) – One was killed and two were injured after an accident involving a military vehicle on Highway 49 Wednesday afternoon, according to Paso Robles Daily News.

The collision occurred at about 7:42 a.m. on Highway 46 at Davis Road.

As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 2007 M1078 Tactical Vehicle was going 50 mph in a military convoy east on Highway 46 when at the same time a 2000 Acura TL was traveling at 55mph west.

The operator of the Tactical Vehicle, 49-year-old Army Reserve sergeant Cecil Gabriel Johnson, crossed the double yellow center lines into the westbound lane after the left front tire of the military vehicle went flat and failed.

The two ultimately collided head-on. The driver of the Acura, 58-year-old Rowland Heights resident Chan Kee Chung, died as a result of the crash.

Johnson and his passenger 24-year-old Army Reserve Specialist Christina Astorga, were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital with minor injuries. Johnson is from San Bernardino while Astorga is from Los Angeles.

The incident is still under investigation.
