Cecilia Villalobos, 31, Killed in Whitewater Crash on Interstate 10
WHITEWATER, CA (May 15, 2023) – Cecilia Villalobos was killed after a crash on the Interstate 10 in Whitewater.
The coroner’s office identified the 31-year-old Anaheim woman as one of the victims in the fatal accident which took place on Sunday.
The incident happened when Cecilia Villalobos was riding as a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban carrying eight more people in Whitewater. The SUV was going east in the No. 2 Lane of the Interstate 10.
A 2022 black Tesla Model 3 was traveling the same direction in the No. 3 Lane at the time. For an unknown reason, the two cars collided.
The California Highway Patrol said the Chevrolet spun out of control, struck the center divider and then overturned. Both vehicles came to a stop with major damage.
2 Girls Dead, 6 People Injured in Wreck
The Desert Sun and KESQ News wrote that the collision occurred on May 14 at about 7:27 a.m. Six people ended up thrown from the Suburban and another person became partially ejected upon impact.
Cecilia Villalobos and two girls, ages 10 and 12, died at the scene of the crash. Four other occupants, three girls ages 3, 7 and 12; and a 15-year-old boy, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
The driver of the Chevrolet survived with moderate injuries and a 41-year-old front passenger obtained minor injuries. Two air ambulances flew two patients to a trauma center for treatment.
Ground ambulances rushed three people to a hospital for further aid. CHP added that the motorist in the Tesla did not suffer any injury.
Meanwhile, the cause of the Whitewater crash is still under investigation.
