Bakersfield Man Identified as Pedestrian Struck by Suspected DUI Driver

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (July 10, 2024) — Chad Anthony Jacques, 48, of Bakersfield, died in a Bakersfield crash last Thursday night at 24th Street and Oak Street.

The Bakersfield Police Department also arrested the alleged drunken driver who struck the man at around 8:40 p.m. on July 4th, according to KGET News.

Police responded to the intersection of 24th and Oak streets and located a man with major injuries down in the roadway as well as several damaged vehicles.

Investigators determined a driver traveling northbound on Oak Street was attempting to turn east onto 24th Street when they struck the pedestrian standing in the center divider.

The vehicle reportedly ran over the center divider and hit the man and then collided with four vehicles on westbound 24th Street, the Bakersfield Police Department said.

Chad Jacques died at the scene and a driver in one of the vehicles was treated for minor injuries and transported to a hospital, police said.

William Largent, 33, was arrested on suspicion gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury, police records show.

Also, he is also facing infractions for failing to stop at a red light and traveling at an unsafe speed.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the fatal crash should call Bakersfield police at 661-327-7111.
