Woman, 33, Fatally Struck on I-5 Transition Road

San Diego, CA (April 18, 2025) — Chanel Yvonne Cohen, 33, was fatally struck by a vehicle earlier this week in a pedestrian accident on a San Diego freeway transition road, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 13, on the northbound Interstate 5 transition road to Pershing Drive, the report said.

Preliminary reports indicate that Cohen, who was homeless and living in San Diego, was walking along the roadway when she was struck by an unknown vehicle. It is unclear why she was on the transition road or how the collision occurred.

Emergency services were called, and paramedics transported Cohen to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where medical staff attempted life-saving efforts. She was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m. due to multiple blunt force injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances of the collision. At this time, no suspect vehicle has been identified, and authorities have not released information regarding whether the driver remained at the scene.
