Motorcycle Rider Injured in Memorial Day Crash on Beach Boulevard
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (June 1, 2021) — Chanel Garcia was injured in a Huntington Beach motorcycle crash on Memorial Day involving a suspected DUI driver on Beach Boulevard.
UPDATE: Sadly, Chanel Garcia, 26, of Newport Beach, died at the hospital on Friday, June 4th.
A large truck or SUV crashed into the back of a motorcycle stopped at the light. The bike wound up underneath the large vehicle, according to Huntington Beach Police Department.
Chanel Garcia, who was riding the bike, was transported to a hospital in critical condition. A Go Fund Me page is raising money to cover her medical costs as she does not have health insurance.
Police arrested Christopher Johnstone, 26, of Costa Mesa, following the 7:30 p.m. May 31st crash. Also, authorities charged him with possession of a narcotic controlled substance and DUI combined alcohol and drugs causing bodily injury, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department’s arrest log.
Meanwhile, police closed down a section of Beach Boulevard on the southbound side between Slater Avenue and Newman Avenue. The roadway closed down for several hours due to an ongoing investigation into the Huntington Beach motorcycle crash.
Investigators with the Huntington Beach Police Department are piecing together what happened.
