Charles Melton, 85, Killed in Bakersfield Head-On Crash on Highway 65

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 26, 2021) – Charles Melton was killed after a car crash on Highway 65 in Bakersfield.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the 85-year-old Delano man as one of the drivers involved in the fatal wreck which occurred on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened on July 24 when Charles Elbert Melton was driving along Highway 65 near Burbank Street in Bakersfield.

2 Vehicles Collide Near Burbank Street

For an unknown reason, he collided head-on with another motorist. The California Highway Patrol described the two vehicles as a minivan and an SUV.

Both Charles Melton and the other driver, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene of the Bakersfield crash. The Bakersfield Californian and Kern Golden Empire wrote that the accident took place shortly after 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, CHP forced Highway 65 at Imperial Street to shut down for hours following the collision. The cause of the Bakersfield crash is still under investigation.
