Father, Child Injured in Pedestrian Accident on Ned’s Way
Tiburon, CA (August 18, 2021) – Charles Gustav Oewel, a 78-year-old man, pleaded guilty in relation with a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Ned’s Way last year.
The Marinij published an article online indicating Charles Oewel was behind the wheel of a Ford Expedition SUV. Preliminary investigation revealed the driver failed to slow down as he approached a crosswalk. As a result, the Ford struck a family crossing the street.
Officials said the father lost his grip on the stroller carrying his 22-month-old son. Per local news source, the father suffered an elbow injury and back pain, and the child had a cut and swelling on his forehead. Responding paramedics transported the father and his child to the hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
Meanwhile, the mother and the other three children appeared unharmed after the incident.
Charles Oewel Suspect in Tiburon Hit-and-Run DUI Crash
Authorities mentioned Charles Oewel failed to yield after the collision. The motorist continued driving on Tiburon Boulevard. Shortly after, officers located the hit-and-run suspect and eventually apprehended him. Investigators later determine the driver was drunk at the time of the collision.
On August 11, Charles Oewel accepted a plea deal for a felony charge and a 220-day jail sentence.
