1 Killed, 1 Critically Injured in Los Olivos Rollover Crash
LOS OLIVOS (June 18, 2019) – Sienna Diaz, 21, of Los Olivos, was killed and her passenger, Chelsee L. Fuerch, 22, of Santa Maria, was critically injured Tuesday in a rollover collision in the Santa Ynez Valley.
The solo-vehicle collision took place about 5:30 p.m. on the 4100 block of Figueroa Mountain Road near Los Olivos, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Diaz was driving a 1998 Toyota Corolla southbound when she reportedly veered off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder, the CHP said. She allegedly made an “unsafe tuning movement” as she tried to take control of the vehicle, but instead it went down an embankment. The two young women were trapped in the overturned vehicle until firefighters arrived and rescued them.
Diaz suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Noozhawk. She was later identified by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.
Fuerch was airlifted by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where she is being treated for major injuries, the CHP said.
According to her family’s GoFundMe page, she suffered a major spinal injury.
The crash is under investigation by the CHP.
