Police Arrest Suspected DUI Driver after Fatal Lancaster Crash; 6 Injured
LANCASTER, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2019) – Cheree Sowell, 29, Rosamond in Kern County, was killed and six other people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash set off by an alleged drunken driver in Lancaster.
Police arrested Daniel Kaseforth, 34, of Lancaster, after the collision on DUI charges. He was being held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
The crash took place on Thursday about 4:50 p.m. Sowell was driving a 2006 Scion and was stopped at a stop sign on southbound 60th Street West at the intersection with state Route 138. Meanwhile, Kaseforth was driving a 2007 Ford southbound on 60th Street West and crashed into the back of the Scion at the intersection, the California Highway Patrol reported. Upon impact, the Scion was pushed directly into the path of a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was westbound on SR-138 — also called Avenue D. The pickup crashed into the left side of the Scion, leaving Sowell with fatal injuries. She died at the scene of the crash.
Kaseforth’s Ford also crashed into the Ford F-150 pickup.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department treated and transported to hospitals five people who suffered moderate injuries and one with minor injuries.
The most seriously injured were airlifted by two helicopters to the hospital and the others were taken by ambulances.
