Woman Killed, Man Injured in Solo Crash
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2023) — Cheryl McCoy, 68, of Phoenix, died in a motorcycle accident on the Interstate 10 Freeway Thursday morning in Palm Springs.
The woman was riding on the back of a green Harley Davidson motorcycle when the vehicle crashed and both occupants were thrown off it, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner. Police say the bike was pulling a small trailer and traveling around 70 mph when the crash occurred due to unknown circumstances.
The motorcycle was traveling westbound on the I-10 when i crashed around 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 7th near the Palm Drive and Gene Autry Trail off ramp.
Paramedics responded and rushed both the man and woman to Desert Regional Medical Center.
The 62-year-old man operating the bike suffered major injuries in the crash and the woman died from her injuries at the hospital.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the motorcycle crash.
