CHICO, California (May 19, 2014) – The driver of a Jeep Cherokee SUV crashed into the passenger side of a compact car and then fled on foot following a collision on the northbound Highway 99, just south of the 20th Street off ramp, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 12:32 p.m.., CHP officers say after the crash one of the drivers spun out and struck the center divider and the other spun out and struck a tree on the right side of the freeway, the report said. The adult male driving the gray Jeep Cherokee first fled on foot toward a nearby mall, but returned to the crash and took the vehicle and fled the scene.
The compact car had major right-side damage as a result of the crash.
Paramedics were sent to the scene of the crash, but there were no further details as to injuries sustained by anyone in the crash.
“Police will hopefully find the responsible driver and investigate this crash to determine liability,” said Attorney James Johnson.
