1 Injured in Chico Crash at West 1st Avenue and Esplanade
CHICO, CA (October 20, 2021) – One was hospitalized after a DUI crash at West 1st Avenue and Esplanade in Chico.
According to The Reporter and Action News Now, the accident took place late Tuesday night. Officers reported the wreck on October 19 at around 10:55 p.m.
The incident began when Chico police received a call about a green Ford Mustang driving on Esplanade close to Panama Avenue. They lost sight of the car which continued southbound on Esplanade.
Chico police said the Mustang then ran a red light at the intersection with West 1st Avenue. In the process, the Ford slammed into another vehicle going westbound on 1st Avenue.
DUI Driver Runs Red Light, Hits Another Car
The Mustang ultimately slid into the traffic signal control box of the intersection. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found the driver of the westbound car hurt.
The patient ended up suffering from minor injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel took the victim to a hospital for treatment.
Officials did not disclose the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, police determined that the woman driving the Mustang was under the influence at the time.
They soon arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI. Officers forced the area of 1st Avenue and Esplanade to shut down following the wreck. The Chico DUI crash is still under investigation.
