  Child Killed in Fresno Pedestrian Accident Friant Road, Willow AveGirl, 8, Killed in Fresno Pedestrian Accident; 2 Arrested

FRESNO, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2021) — An 8-year-old child died in a Fresno pedestrian accident Nov. 12th on Friant Road at Willow Avenue.

The deadly crash happened about 10 p.m. on Friday amid heavy fog conditions on Friant Road, just north of Willow Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP’s Fresno Area Office the girl walked directly into the path of a northbound Toyota RAV4 driven by an 82-year-old man. The driver told authorities he was unable to avoid hitting the victim. The man stopped following the deadly crash and is cooperating with authorities.

Child Exited Stopped SUV Due to Domestic Violence Incident

Meanwhile, police investigating the collision learned the child had exited a stopped Toyota Sequoia SUV that had also been traveling northbound on Friant Road. She reportedly exited the SUV after its 22-year-old driver stopped due to an alleged domestic violence incident with the woman’s male passenger. Fresno Sheriff’s deputies arrested passenger, Juan Del Toro, 51, on domestic violence charges by upon further investigation. Police booked the man into the Fresno County Jail.

Also, the domestic violence victim who was driving the Toyota Sequoia was determined to be driving under the influence or alcohol or drugs. She was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges, but was later released. A responsible party took custody of a 2-year-old girl who had been in the SUV with the man and woman.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office (FSO) Deputies arrived at the scene and are coordinating the collision and domestic violence investigation.

The collision remains under investigation.
