1 Killed in Chiriaco Summit Big Rig Crash on Interstate 10 Near Summit Road
CHIRIACO SUMMIT, CA (August 12, 2022) – A big rig crash killed at least one person on the Interstate 10 near Summit Road in Chiriaco Summit.
According to The Desert Sun and NBC Palm Springs, the tragic accident took place on Friday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 4:55 p.m.
The incident happened when a semi-truck hit the back of another big rig in Chiriaco Summit. For an unknown reason, the two crashed on the westbound Interstate 10, just east of Summit Road.
2 Semi-Trucks Collide
The rear-ended tractor-trailer burst into flames due to the impact of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene.
Medical personnel confirmed that one individual died as a result of the accident. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, officers forced the westbound side of the Interstate 10 to shut down for a time following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Chiriaco Summit crash is still under investigation.
