CHP Officer Injured in Bay Bridge Crash on Interstate Highway 80
SAN FRANCISCO (January 13, 2019) – A CHP motorcycle officer was hospitalized after a traffic collision involving a truck on the Bay Bridge Sunday morning, according to SF Examiner.
The accident took place at about 7:30 a.m. on the Interstate Highway 80, just west of Treasure Island.
As per the article, the incident began when a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was escorting a disabled vehicle off the bridge in the westbound slow lane on Interstate 80.
A big rig in the second-to-right lane then swerved into the far right lane and ultimately hit the motorcycle.
CHP Motorcycle Officer Hit by Truck on Bay Bridge
The semi-truck was apparently making an unsafe lane change when it hit the officer.
The officer was thrown off his bike and landed in the slow traffic lane as a result of the crash. He suffered minor to moderate injuries upon impact.
Meanwhile, the victim was then transported to a nearby hospital and was later released. His name was not immediately released.
The motorcycle of the officer reportedly had its flashing lights activated when the wreck occurred. Authorities are still investigating the collision.
