Gregory Anthony Ramirez, 41, Arrested
SACRAMENTO, California (May 7, 2016) – A California Highway Patrol Officer was seriously injured after being struck by a FedEx truck on Highway 50 early Saturday morning, according to The Sacramento Bee. (map)
The collision occurred about 3:30 a.m., near the 16th Street on-ramp.
As per the article, CHP said the officer was was working to clear the site of an initial 2-car accident on the highway when he and his patrol vehicle were hit by the Federal Express tractor-trailer truck.
The veteran officer from the CHP’s south Sacramento division was then taken to the hospital to be treated for major injuries. He is expected to survive.
Meanwhile the 41-year-old San Lorenzo man driving the FedEx truck, Gregory Anthony Ramirez, was determined to have been drunk driving at the time. He was then arrested on suspicion of DUI.
