1,118 Arrested DUI by California Highway Patrol
CALIFORNIA (July 4th, 2016 weekend) — This year’s Fourth of July celebration is over, but the rise in the death toll this year on our freeways is just beginning to sink in for the loved ones of some 35 people who were killed in collisions over the 3-day long weekend.
The number of people killed was a significant rise from 26 deaths in 2015, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police also arrested 1,118 people for driving under the influence this past weekend compared to 930 arrests for DUI in 2015, the CHP report said.
In Los Angeles County, the CHP arrested 211 people this year compared to 207 last year over the Independence Day weekend.
In the Los Angeles County area there were six people killed this year over the July 4th weekend, compared to two last year. There were also 211 DUI arrests this year versus 207 DUI arrests last year in LA County.
These statistics cover the Fourth of July Independence Day Maximum Enforcement Period that lasted for 78 hours from 6:01 p.m., July 2nd, to July 4th, 11:59 pm. This time period was 24 hours longer than the 2015 enforcement weekend.
“It can be especially hard on families of people who are killed on holidays to cope,” said Attorney James Johnson.
The staff members of Johnson Attorneys Group thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their family and friends during such difficult times.
A serious injury or a death to a family member after an accident is both tragic and devastating to a surviving family. The grief, shock, and anger that set in are overwhelming, to say the least. We understand that no amount of money can make up for a devastating injury or loss of a loved one, however, it is important that a victim or family be made aware of their rights. At Johnson Attorneys Group, our experienced California attorneys work aggressively to recover everything our clients are entitled to by law.
