CHP Made 1,224 DUI Arrests Last Year
CALIFORNIA — The CHP plans to step up its patrols for reckless drivers in California starting Wednesday night and over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Police will be cracking down on drunk drivers, speeding, people not wearing seatbelts and other lawlessness for the next five days, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The maximum traffic enforcement period starts at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd and continues through midnight on Sunday, July 7th.
This is a statewide effort to reduce the number of injuries and deaths on roadways throughout California.

Just one year ago, there were 68 deaths over the Independence Day holiday from traffic collisions and roughly half of the victims were not wearing a seatbelt, according to CHP statistics.
Also, CHP officers arrested 1,224 drivers on DUI charges last year or what amounts to one DUI arrest every five minutes over the 102-hours spent enforcing traffic safety.
“If there were more sober drivers in California, more people would make it home alive on the Fourth of July,” said Attorney James Johnson. “I hope everyone enjoys their weekend, but remember to plan a safe ride home.”
You can help CHP patrol for drunk drivers by reporting them immediately. Call 911 and provide as many details as possible such as a license plate number, make and model of the vehicle, location and direction of travel.
