Chris Larges, 52, Badly Injured in Chico Crash on Highway 99
CHICO, CA (March 7, 2023) – A fatal crash left Chris Larges badly injured on Highway 99 near Cana Highway north of Chico.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 52-year-old Shasta Lake resident as the victim in the wreck which took place on Tuesday.
The incident happened when Chris Larges was driving a red Toyota pickup truck on northbound Highway 99 north of Chico. A silver Toyota sedan was traveling in the same direction at the time.
For an unknown reason, the sedan veered into oncoming traffic. CHP said the car slammed into the left side of a big rig heading south near Cana Highway.
1 Killed in Wreck
The rear axle of the semi-truck’s trailer fell off and went into the northbound lane. In the process, the axle hit the pickup truck which then rolled over multiple times.
The pickup landed its side on the right shoulder of the highway. The axle traveled back into the southbound lane after hitting the pickup and collided with a silver Honda sedan.
The Enterprise Record and KRCRTV News wrote that the collision occurred on March 7 at around 3 p.m. Chris Larges and the driver of the big rig sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
The motorist in the sedan, a 52-year-old Chico woman, suffered serious injuries following the accident. Paramedics rushed at least two patients to the hospital, where the woman soon died.
Meanwhile, CHP added that two of the vehicles ended up totaled while the other two came to a rest with minor damage. The cause of the Chico crash is still under investigation.
