Hit-and-Run Driver Christian Cortez, 26, Seriously Injures Pedestrian in Merced Crash
MERCED, CA (April 12, 2021) – Christian Cortez was arrested after a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Merced.
Police identified the 26-year-old man as the suspect in the accident which occurred last week on Monday morning.
The incident happened on April 5 when Christian Cortez was driving a yellow Ford Mustang. He then struck a 75-year-old man at the intersection of 16th and O streets in Merced.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene near the Auto Resources car lot. They found the elderly pedestrian in the gutter on the north side of the 16th Street near O Street.

Police said the victim suffered major injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then rushed him to a Modesto area hospital for treatment of a laceration to his head.
The Merced Sun Star and Your Central Valley News reported the crash at about 3:30 a.m. Officers did not disclose the name of the elderly pedestrian.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Christian Cortez did not stop to render aid and fled the area. They later located him and his car at a home in Merced.
Authorities soon arrested and booked Cortez into the Merced County Jail for felony hit-and-run. Anyone with information can call the police at 209-388-7753 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 209-385-4725.
