Father Critically Injured in Hit-and-run Crash in Arleta
LOS ANGELES (June 10, 2022) — Christian De Oro, 43, was critically injured in a collision with a hit-and-run driver in a stolen U-Haul van on Osbourne Street at Beachy Avenue in Arleta.
The two-vehicle crash occurred Sunday, June 5th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A driver in a U-Haul van was traveling westbound on Osbourne Street. Surveillance cameras in the area caught the collision on video. They allegedly ran a red light at Beachy Avenue and crashed into a Toyota Yaris driven by Christian De Oro. The suspect and his or her passenger both fled the scene and remain at large.
Meanwhile, firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate Christian De Oro from his vehicle. Paramedics transported the single father to three children to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. ABC News reports the crash occurred just four days before the daughter if the victim’s high school graduation. Oro remains in critical condition with fractures to his pelvis, his knee, ribs, and hips. He’s undergone multiple surgeries so far.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the suspects or crash may contact Det. Wade with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
The man’s family has created a GoFundMe to help pay his medical costs.
