Christian Diaz and Gonzalo Rodriguez Killed in Car Accident on Highway 78
DATE OF COLLISION: Monday, December 24th
December 25, 2018 – Two people were killed, and several others were injured in a traffic collision Monday morning on Highway 78, according to ABC and the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The fatalities have been identified as Christian Diaz, a minor, and 44-year-old Gonzalo Rodriguez.
Preliminary investigation revealed Rodriguez was driving a Toyota Camry heading west on Highway 78 when for an unknown reason it veered off the road and overcorrected. The Camry then crossed the yellow lines and went directly into the path of a Dodge Ram truck which was headed east at the time. The two ultimately collided head-on.
As per the article, Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Rodriguez was reportedly rushed to Palomar Medical Center, where he sadly died.

Two other occupants of the Camry — a woman and another young boy — and the 77-year-old driver of the pickup truck were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries of unknown severity. The names of the patients, and their conditions at this time have not been disclosed thus far.
Investigators handling the case continue to work to determine precisely how and why the crash happened.
