DUI Driver Christian Vargas, 25, Hits Another Car in Pittsburg Crash
PITTSBURG, CA (April 13, 2021) – Authorities detained Christian Vargas after a fatal DUI crash along West Leland Road in Pittsburg.
Police determined that the 25-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Monday evening.
The incident happened on April 12 when Christian Vargas was driving a Chevrolet Camaro at a high rate of speed east on West Leland Road in Pittsburg. A Toyota Corolla was going the same direction.
Police said the Chevrolet then struck the rear of the Toyota. The Corolla spun out of control and slammed into a tree, east of John Henry Johnson Parkway.
Three juvenile passengers ended up ejected from the Toyota as a result of the collision. Police affirmed that the children, ages 1, 4 and 7, were in their car seats.

According to the East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco, officers reported the accident at about 6:03 p.m. Firefighters along with the paramedics pronounced the driver of the Corolla dead at the scene.
The juveniles and the fourth occupant of the Toyota suffered serious injuries upon impact. Medical personnel rushed them to a hospital, where the 7-year-old died.
Officials also took the two passengers of the Camaro, including a 10-year-old child, for treatment of major injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded victims have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, authorities soon arrested Christian Vargas on suspicion of felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI resulting in bodily injury and probation violation.
They booked him into Martinez county jail. He was found to be on active court probation for a prior DUI conviction. The tragic Pittsburg crash is still under investigation.
