Christopher Cruze, 29, Injured in Florida Avenue Hit-and-Run Accident

VALLE VISTA, Riverside County (August 29, 2017) – A pedestrian was seriously injured after an alleged hit-and-run accident on Florida Avenue Monday night has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher Cruze, according to The Press Enterprise.

Cruze was airlifted to Riverside University Health with major injuries, including a broken leg.

As per the article, California Highway Patrol said Cruze stepped into the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by an Acura.

The car was traveling west on Florida Avenue, also known as Highway 74, east of First Street.

Jonathan Mendez, 21, Arrested

CHP affirmed that the driver involved did not stop and fled the scene. The force of the crash caused the front bumper to be dislodged from the Acura. Officials located the registered owner in a Hemet residence and found the suspect hiding in a closet.

The hit-and-run motorist, 21-year-old Jonathan Mendez, was then arrested and booked into the Banning jail.

Motorists are obliged to stop after being involved in a traffic accident. In this case, it is apparent that Mr. Jonathan Mendez will be held responsible for causing the incident that led to the injuries of Mr. Christopher Cruze. Regardless of their reasons, fleeing the area following a crash is a serious crime and is punishable by law, especially if the incident hurt another individual.
