Chula Vista crash H Street
5 Injured in Chula Vista Crash on East H Street Near Paseo Del Rey
CHULA VISTA, CA (July 6, 2021) – Several were hospitalized after a DUI crash on East H Street in Chula Vista.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego, the accident took place on Tuesday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 11 a.m.
The incident began when a white BMW SUV traveling eastbound on East H Street veered around several vehicles stopped at a red light at Paseo Del Rey.
Police said the 21-year-old man driving the BMW went into oncoming traffic and slammed into six cars. His SUV ultimately rolled over and caught fire.
DUI Driver Hits Several Cars
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and extricated him and another trapped driver, a 55-year-old woman, from the wreckage.
The rescued individuals, the female passenger in the BMW and two more people ended up hurt as a result of the collision. Medical personnel took them to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials did not release the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist in the BMW was under the influence when the wreck occurred.
Officers forced a portion of H Street to shut down for more than four hours following the collision. The Chula Vista DUI crash is still under investigation.
