Man in Motorized Wheelchair Killed in Chula Vista Accident on Oxford Street
CHULA VISTA, CA (February 24, 2021) – An accident killed a man in a motorized wheelchair on Oxford Street in Chula Vista.
The incident began when a Hyundai SUV was going east in the 400 block of Oxford Street. Chula Vista police said the car then struck the man in his motorized wheelchair for an unknown reason.
Victim Hit by Car Near Fourth Avenue
The impact threw the victim onto the road. Firefighters along with the paramedics then responded to the scene near Fourth Avenue.
They found the victim who ended up underneath a parked vehicle nearby as a result of the accident. Medical personnel rushed him to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he died.
His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the driver of the Hyundai stopped and stayed at the crash site after hitting the victim.
Authorities forced the Oxford Street to close in both directions for three and a half hours following the incident. The cause of the fatal collision is still under investigation.
