CHULA VISTA, California (July 28, 2016) — The death of a man in his 50s following his arrest for public intoxication at a Dead & Co. concert is under investigation by the San Diego County Medical Examiner.
The Chula Vista Police Department arrested the man who was attending the concert at the Sleep Train Amphitheater Wednesday night when he was unable to provide security guards a ticket.
He was escorted out of the concert, but attempted to run away, then he resisted and struggled with security. Police were there to assist security guards and he was arrested on charges of public intoxication just after 7:30 p.m. last night.
Police say he was evaluated by medical personnel who determined there were no serious medical issues present. The man reportedly fell asleep as he sat in a chair while police were filling out paperwork. When the snoring stopped police noticed he was no longer responsive and he died about 9:15 p.m.
An autopsy will be conducted by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Additionally, the incident is under investigation by the Chula Vista police Crimes of Violence and Professional Standard and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing procedures to determine liability for the man’s death.
